Rising Stories Podcast Episode #67 My Lean In conference experience

On this episode I share my experiences when I attended the Lean In Leaders Conference 2017 in Palo Alto, CA.

Landing in California and meeting up with a Lean In circle leader from Milan, boarding the CalTrain to Silicon Valley, was just the beginning of an amazing weekend. 75 Lean In Leaders from 17 countries across the globe, including China, Poland, El Salvador, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Japan gathered for the 3rd Annual Lean In Leaders Conference.

I'll tell you about the time I got stuck at Facebook Headquarters, about the awesome speakers at the conference and of course, about my dinner with Sheryl Sandberg.

Lean In is a nonprofit organization started by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO and author of Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead & Option B. It is now a strong movement with over 33,000 regional and corporate chapters and circles supporting women in leadership and removing those barriers to advancement.

I was invited to attend this conference to represent the Lean In chapter in Nashville, TN Our chapter is made up of two circles Lean In Brentwood & STEM-WARE. We are 125 members strong and growing. You can join our Nashville chapter HERE. To find a local chapter in your area visit LeanIn.org

Dinner with Sheryl Sandberg

But the main event was when we all shared a meal with Sheryl Sandberg herself. Her presence was calming and electrifying at the same time.  During my short personal visit, I gave her my little bag of Tennessee goodness and invited her to visit Music City, USA.

We all felt her message to us that night.

Keep going, let’s link arms together and keep rising.

I'm a leader because I am passionate about empowering women and I am a kind bossy pants.

I'm a leader because I am passionate about empowering women and I am a kind bossy pants.

Here's a short video about what it means to Lean In.

The conference started off with a superstar speaker, Dr. Jen Welter, the first woman to coach in the NFL. She shared her story with us and helped us see that we can be All woman and thrive no matter what. Who knew a female could dream of becoming the first woman to coach in the NFL coach? She encouraged us to dream above and beyond what we see before us.

We also heard from Deborah Gruenfeld, a Standford professor who gave us an overview of her latest research on the effective use of power. Our influence and body language can tell a powerful story.

Listen to her share more about Power & Influence.

What would you do if you weren't afraid? Leave me a comment below or email me your answer to this question. I would love to hear from you. info@corinesandifer.com
